Re: Coal Storage at Cumbres too

From what Jerry posted earlier, it sounds like for the most part these rotary/flanger runs, were usually one-day outings to either Big Horn or Lava, and coal was never the real issue(plenty either along the line, or with them in a gon). This begs another question.
(1)How much snow required a flanger run? Obviously the pilot plows on the steam engine took car of some snow busting but what criteria was used to determine that this would not due the job?
(2) Follow-up to that, if the flanger couldn't do the job, then when would the Rotaries be called out. Again what criteria would be used to assess the situation. Was it drifting at a place that was notoriously bad, or snowfall depths. There must have been guys along the line who would telephone visual clues in this regard.
(3) The incident in which the 492(I think it was 492)helper got stuck in a drift west of Osier got me to thinking about this. Of course I guess that was the mother of all storms!

PS We have probably had a worse winter than Chama. We have had snow on the ground almost continuously for 4-5 weeks. Supposed to be 33 today so we are jumping for joy. Here in Ohio nobody knows what a Rotary Snow Plow is!!
