Well Earl might remember our ill-fated trips of May 1993, and on Sunday we ran an afternoon train with this same engine, 488. It stalled(It was not tender first eiher), approaching this same curve. We were set-up for a runby just past the curve in the video. Tom Atkinson was the engineer I think. They had to back up and get a run for this hill, which is probably 4%. I remember we ran those trips without the spark arrestors, and Chris was up on the highway and had to put out a small fire between the railroad and the highway!!! At Lobato, we met helper 487 returning from Cumbres, and swapped engines, making our train a westbound headed to Gato.
Fun times. Point is 488 can stall here going forward too!!!
