I always have a problem when I see in a comment about the expense of riding a train, that the hotel and food charges are included. If the family of four were to go to Pagosa Spring for the hot springs instead of Chama or Durango to ride a train, they will still have hotel and food bills. (If they stay home they will still have food bills, smaller yes but …) ((If they go to Chama to ride on the C&TS, a wonderful meal is included.))
Another fault I find with some of the reasoning in these posts is an apparent assumption that all vacationers want the same vacation, where every family wants to go to the bigger cities for more attractions. While this is true in many cases, there are a large number of families that want to get away from that hustle.
Currently at the C&TSRR there is a relatively new team working through the marketing and operating challenges. Let’s give them the benefit of trust and see what they can do. Besides, as has been said, this is not a virginal topic and as great as we seem to think our ideas are, they have yet to be paid attention to.
