Every tourist railroad has different ways to do hand signals. However as mentioned before the GCOR version is what should be done. On the Boone and Scenic our difference with the Chinese locomotive is the location of the engineer.(left hand drive). So, the brakeman and conductor have to remember this when giving signals. Anytime I am working with a new brakeman I put him/her in the engineers seat and make them see the limited visibility from the cab point of view.
I always tell them when making hand signals alway over animate them, this makes it easier to be seen and understand.
The most important thing no matter what is that the signals are understood by both. The next thing I tell new brakemen is " unlike your model trains on your basement, this thing can kill you on the first mistake."
As always Roger great videos and keep them coming!
