Checking today, there is not and never was a clause in the Thomas contract that the locomotive has to push on the rear of the Thomas train. I think that depends on what the individual railroad want's to do. If the railroad is on the flat with point to point operation, that would make sense. The CRRM runs forward around the loop and never backs up with the train. With our curves and 4% grades running with the engine pushing would be pure stupidity. I've been deeply involved with the first 5 Thomas's at the CRRM and the Hit people never had the contract say we need to run one way or another. They let us do what we feel safe doing. Only important order from Hit was "don't cross Thomas's eyes."
