the bridge actually predates the Tramway, trackage has long since been extended on further West. It was built as an access to the mowershed after trees were planted preventing entry, hence the lowerdeck. I figured it would look better as a road/rail bridge which were very common here in NZ and those rails on the bridge were the only track I had for 4 more years waiting for more steel rail. During that time the Tram was using wooden rails for 60 yards on a seperate unconnected section back up past the Shop.
Note the washed sleepers this end, that was the high-water mark on a normally dry creek during our regions severe '04 floods. This forced me to raise the deck somewhat, incidently we have had flowing water in the creek only 3 times this winter, after or during heavy rains, normal water flow is less than 24".
