Well let me throw some more on the fire about "russia" colors and planished metal.
I had to look up the term "planished " and really got a surprise. What I read said that sheet metal was beaten with hammers by experienced metal workers. This they said made the metal a lot harder and would give the metal a gray green look which would vary all over the place depending on the the light in which it was seen.
Texas & Pacific paint charts called for planished metal jackets to be painted with Charles R Long company "light russia" which was a gray green . This conflicts with the descriiption of the color given in the english description in this blog. So for me, confusion still reigns.
The T&P chart also stated that engines without such metal would be painted boiler gray.
