And one more thing...
I was at the museum on Aug 14th. I'd called and emailed well before to see if I could get some specific shots of 491 in the roundhouse. We were only going to be there for 45 minutes or so, my wife was with me and I didn't want to cash in all my hobby (such an inadequate word) chips at once, if ya know what I'm sayin'....
I knew they'd be pretty busy getting 491 ready and didn't want to be a bother or expect the red carpet, but we ambled (ok, walked briskly) down to the roundhouse and poked our heads in. The front desk had called ahead so Mike knew I was on my way. Luckily, they were waiting for a hot piece of metal to cool down and had a couple minutes to spare. I was greeted like a old friend and when I explained what I was looking for they were extremely helpful. Mike even crawled down into the pit, took my camera, and took a bunch of shots of the front equalizer fulcrum from below.
After that they had to get back to work, but let me stay around to take more photos and chat. The young Mark Huber was especially informative and helpful. Then it was time to get out of their hair, all in all it was a wonderful visit, if all too short. The guys were very gracious with the little time they had, and the results of their labors are truly amazing.
So hats off to Jack and Mike and all the people involved on a great job with 491, big thanks for the help and hope to get out some time again when she's running...
