Hi Philip, in the going away shot it looks like Chama will have plenty of snow as the "Skunk Cabbage" is pretty tall. 
Greg has some good tips but overall I like your shots. I have never been a big fan of zoom lens, but since but they have improved a lot since film days. I bought a 24-70mm a couple months ago and it is tack sharp but it weighs close to a ton, well pretty close. It is heavy and at my age I use a tripod most always as I am not as steady as I once was.
