A bit of advice to help your photos. Please don't take offense, as I am only trying to help.
I like the framing much better on the first one, instead of the second one, but I feel the best shot would have been in between them.
One thing some photographers don't take into account is the smoke. To me the smoke is part of the shot.
To improve these I would have suggested these things.
(a) Left to right framing is real good on photo one.
(b) to improve on these two shots, raise the camera up to eliminate some of the ground and get more sky(and thus smoke). But, keep the same framing left to right to keep the whole tank in the scene.
(c) Take the shot when the engine is about a freight car or more past where number one is. Part of the problem is the tank is shading the engine some. The engine being in between shots one and two and raising the camera would have framed everything better and given a little more detail on the engine!
(d) The engine is in about the right spot on the second shot, but too close to the frames, and cuts out the tank. Being back a tad might have helped or a shorter lens slightly....maybe back where the weed is!!!
Time honored spot for sure. I have to drum these things into my wife, as she always takes stuff either too early or two late. I have been known to be called a perfectionist though(or too picky), but striving for perfection on photography is part of the fun and challenge!!!
Thanks for posting and don't think me arrogant for the above comments.
Cheers,
Greg Scholl
PS. The second shot cuts out part of the tank. On the going away shot, a weed whip would be nice also!!!
No quibble there though as going away are not my favs anyway!!!
