Back in the 1980s this locomotive was at Old Vegas in Henderson, Nevada. Back in those days it was running over a about a mile of track that ran around the property. On the train was a Dixieland band, playing away to the delight of the passengers. Nearby under a shed sat Eureka on static display. It was covered with studio paint and while there Eureka looked pretty rough.
I believe the boiler was installed by one of my clients who has long since passed away. Although I was not into restoration at the time, the locomotive seemed to work just fine.....even if it was propane fired.
I believe Brook Rother got all this equipment sometime after I acquired Eureka. I wound up getting all the rail, switches, ties and other OTM. Eureka sits on some of that tract in my back yard. The rest of it is at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City where we have laid a substantial part of that track for public exhibition of narrow gauge stuff.
In addition, on display at Old Vegas was V&T combination car 15. That car is now at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City. It was really amazing how complete that car was when it was down here. I guess one of these years the NSRM CC will get around to restoring it. If anyone happens to have the movie "The Harvey Girls" you can see Judy Garland coming down from this car and singing "The Atcheson Topeka and Santa Fe" which I believe took the academy award for best song .
Seeing this little engine brought back a lot of pleasant memories of Old Vegas.
