In addition to the wonderful progress that is being made in regard to our shop facilities that Dan has posted, there is wintertime shop work that does go on. In the car shop we have a SVRy boxcar that is undergoing restoration. After the work week end this weekend, it is to go back outside and coach 20 is to go into the car shop. A small amount of work is started on the #3 Heisler as far as off season maint. and repair. It is in the 2nd bay of the car shop. Engine 19 will get an assorment of work done to it before the operating season starts. Each winter members take some projects home to work on in thier own shops or garages. Some of the things going on off site this winter are overhaul of the speeder that is used for fire patrol and track inspection by one of our members. This person is also I believe working on some track maint. equipment such as a spike driver and a track saw. The CMO always had a multitude of projects he is working on off site in his personal shop for the rr. Another couple of members are working on triple valves and overhaul of a rail drill, off site. There is also the group of members in Boise, Id. that is working on restoration of the #100 Whitcomb. I believe work continues during the winter on this. Also several of the members down Boise way have a Fairbanks Morse Z engine to overhaul in thier spare time. It was originally the pump engine for the water tower at S wye, and later after Sumpter City water was piped to the tower, it became the saw engine in the S.Baker yd.for cutting the locomotive fuel slab wood to length. It was in use years back by our present organization for this purpose. Some of the members down in Boise also have a small speeder to overhaul which origianlly came from the White Pass. Over on the west side of Ore. one of our members is working on the overhaul of a hard grease gun. There are probably a few similar projects that I don't know about. Volunteerism at it's best!
