Back around 1990, I leased shop space from the cheapest SOB to ever walk the Earth. In fact, he traded me the lease to rebuild the rust bucket 56 Sunliner he had acquired through equally cheap means. But I digress ....
Tom also had a Corvair and raved about what an awesome car it was. I am a big, finned glamour barge kind of guy ... Chryslers, DeSotos, Lincolns, Packards, so Larks and Corvairs, while novel, are "buggish" and not very glamorous or interesting. Tom Corvair was painted gold (with a brush) over white, red, and baby blue body panels. Additionally, it had been lightly nose-punched, to where the whole front end was slightly rearranged, and not to advantage.
Tom was always trying to get me to fix and paint that little toad, but I wouldn't bite. I was up to my ears on far more interesting projects and his idea of compensation was basically ME, giving away my time.
So, one day Tom shows up at the shop. I had not seen the Corvair in a while, and ol' Tom is bubbling over in excitement. He had come by just to show me his new paint job. The car was all red again, but no effort at all had been expended in pulling the nose back out or repairing the dents !
