The first photo is the Diablo Dam incline built as part of the Seattle City Light Skagit Project. A standard guage steam railroad, the Skagit River Railroad, ran from the Great Northern branch at Rockport, up the river to Newhalem, then electrics took over to Diablo Dam. The incline at Diablo Dam took freight cars up the mountain side to a car barge slip, which allowed them to be floated across the lake to the Ross Dam construction site. Notice the rails on the inclince car, a standard 40 foot box car would fit on the incline car.

The Skagit River RR was abandoned in 1954. Steam locomotive No. 6, a Baldwin 2-6-2, was on display at Newhalem for many years.
