Actually SP, the distance from the Looper to Graymont (Bakerville) where the tunnel under the Continental Divide was started is not very far up the road! It's also possible to rebuild the Argentine Central (all grade is intact) and extend the Vidler spur at Waldorf to cross the Continental Divide on Argentine Pass! Now if we can just get the National Park Service interested!
