Thanks for your input I do appreciate what you are saying, and I'm not trying to sound like a broken record. But inside the smoke box there should have been a port that must have been covered over that led through the cylinder saddle, and fed into the cylinders, I would think that if that wasn't covered over it would creat a draft or a suction of some form when the steam was sent into the smoke box and mixed with the smoke to be ejected out of the smokestack, that must be where they covered intake right from smokeboxs, sure wish I could get a tour of the inards of a Franklin Converted locomotive. I still like the old design and thought it was very unique to hide all the steam movement from the eyes of the veiwers. Very magical.
