Thanks Earl for the insight as always, to change an engine from saturated steam to superheated steam took not only the addition of the Superheated plumbing but also the larger flues for those tubes to be put into, which required both the front and back boiler sheets to be replaced, the slide valves to to be changed out to piston valve, then they added the superheater header and plumbing to it,plus they had to add new piping lines into the cylinders from outside the smoke box into the upper piston valve area.
This may be a little crazy to ask but I am under the impression that if they just used an adapter kit to change the slide valves to piston valves(which from the out side looks to have been done)how did they cover the ports in the cylinder saddle for the old saturated steam pathway to flow into the slide valve areas. I would have to think that it would be easier to order a whole new cylinder saddle complete with piston valves for ready use.
Still a Student,
Dave
