Looking deeper into the LC McClure pictures yeilded a few questions to be answered that led me to conclude that Riverview once was a considerable shipping point of not only Ties and mine props but also carloads of Ice.
Tom Klinger in Platte Canon Memories has reference to the cutting of ice there for supply to the numerous Lodges but....
The Riverview siding is listed at 1014ft long enough for 33 cars and was connected at both ends. In the
MCC-499 picture by McClure there is a large platform visible alongside the siding and an odd looking bridge structure across the North Fork of the South Platte river.
Looking further into the Buffalo Park picture....
MCC-502 there shows the unusual bridge. On of a design that lends to the use of moving or chuteing large blocks of Ice with pikes.
Not only that but a breached earthen Dam usually associated with Ice harvesting (very common along the Platte) across the confluence of Buffalo Creek proper. And the platform is now no longer visible.
Anyone else care to add to this?
