The shop folks at about every steam railroad are too often the unsung heroes, who work long hours under difficult conditions and do wonderful deeds, all in the shadows, largely unknown and unseen.
One of the interesting challenges in my mind is for the tourist railroads and museums to arrange ways for visitors to safely view these folks at work. I have long wanted to do a photo series on these folks at work, but safety issues make access difficult...plus photogs tend to get in the way.
The folks in the shop are the heart and soul of any operating steam railroad.
