Dan when I attended Firemans School the Lobato bridge was out so our program might differ from yours
1st morning was spent in the classroom with afternoon with the loco in the Chama yard.
2nd day we ran between the yard up to Lobato. Only 2 students were in the cab at a time, with the rest in the caboose. That allowed 1-on-1 instruction by fireman Ronnie Lopez & engineer Jeff Stebbins. They were excellent instructors!!!
3rd day we ran a work train between Antonito & Osier with lunch at Osier. All of us worked BOTH sides of the cab.
You will need steel-toed boots, overalls & leather gloves. Ronnie taught me to use sunglasses & long-sleeved shirts for working the hot fire.
I stayed at The Hotel & Shops run by Roger & Mary Hogan. Historic & very convienent to the yard & town. I enjoyed every minute of this program!
