Thanks, Jeff. It sounds like mine was the later version of the transmission, then. I seem to recall it pivoting, like you say. My shift lever was also longer, a round shaft (around 1/4" or 3/8" steel), & had an angle bent into it so it was parallel at the end with the seat, and it had a round shift knob on it. Shifting could be done (after loosening the belt) on the fly by pushing it left or right for 1st or 2nd gear. Most of the time it involved a quick forceful shove into the selected gear! We rarely had the opportunity to use second gear, however, as it would easily hit 20+ mph in first gear. Most of the EBT track was NOT good for more than 15-20 mph, same with the track we rebuilt in the Doe River Gorge (although we did get to 25 several times on the only straight stretch!).
