While visiting a friend in Estes Park this summer, I mumbled something about the South Park and we were off and running on a discussion on the subject. This friend told me of camping up on Quartz Creek in the 50's, and disappeared for a moment, only to return with a crossarm, complete with all hardware off the original construction DSP&P telegraph line through there. He said he saved it from some other campers that were about to toss it on their camp fire! Both the arm and pins are made of redwood and are heavy in red oxide preservative paint ... products no doubt of end cuttings from the Alpine Tunnel interior framework. Looking at numerous photos from this area along the line, there is little question what it is!
