Tracing the historical details of the SVRy has always been difficult, in large part because many of the company's original records and archives are closely held by a collector (or collectors) who have never felt the need to share information with other researchers. One can only surmise what wealth of data remains unknown. Shop records, rosters, business archives? As Taylor has noted, #100 was blt. 1929, delivered early 1930, #101 in 1937. No record as to when #100 was sold. I have a theory that it was kept around for some time as a backup unit, maybe a shop goat. Might have even been there 'til the end of mainline operations in 1947. Some day soon, when time permits, I hope to pursue this thru records of the Simplot Co. (purchaser) and pin the date down.
In prepping #100 for restoration we found traces of yellow paint sandwiched between the original chrome green and Simplot's grey/black. This leads me to think it was repainted during its tenure on SV, probably to match #101.
Internal combustion lokies were common on industrial lines, but rare on narrow-gauge common carriers. NCNG#11 was similar to SVRy#100 but predated it by a year or two. D&RGW of course purchased SVRy#101, ran it 'til the end of regular operations. Who else had NG I.C. lokies? Did EBT have one or more? ET&WNC? It would be neat to try to put together a list.
