Interesting stuff Jimmy-Thanks. All this was 2 years and 27 days before I was born. Couple of observations and questions. First the 3 engine train from Chama was really cool, but note it was during darkness, so no chasers for that one except folks who like audio!!! That train had the road engine and a helper go on to Alamosa. Only one engine went back to Chama. Was this an engine balance thing for Alamosa? Regarding the Monarch run, did they take all the empties to Monarch, or leave some at Maysville and just not take them that day. You said only one trip to the mine! Lastly on the Silverton train, it was a mixed train, and what I want to know was (a) when idid it become a mixed train, and when did it really become more of a tourist train. Also when was the last real freight handled in Rio Grande days?
