The D&RG / D&RGW "Chain" map which had been corrected as of 1-3-1923
shows the east switch at Lava, 3664 feet from "New" milepost 290.
The siding was 1109.5 feet long and could hold 28 cars. Track was
steel and of that 1109.5 feet, 702.2 feet was 30# rail, 60 feet
was 40# rail and 347.3 feet was 70#. The two frogs were #8.5 of
70#.
The west end of the siding was about 507 feet from "New" milepost
291. Track centers were 13 feet apart between the siding and the
main line.
The sign for "LAVA" is shown as being 4091 feet from M.P. 290 and
placed outside the siding. There was also a 24 inch pipe 4442 feet
from the M.P. which crossed under the main line and the siding.
The "Old" milepost 289, was located 1583 feet west of "New" M.P.
290. Main line rail is shown to be 70# steel through this area.
Finally, the water tank is 3124 feet west from "New" milepost
291, the tank outlet being 8 feet from the center line of the
track. Shown as a non-agency with water and a telephone, 39.06
miles from Alamosa at an altitude of 8,468 feet above sea level.
