I may be softening, but the Bradshaw years, in retrospect, were a little more about "real" railroading than what we see now. Derelict engines brought back to life, cars purchased out of backyards and pressed back into service, restored in the progress, and a sincere effort to serve the two communities involved, even when only 4 or 5 people rode some of those November trains to Silverton in the snow. I recall the 497's first entrance into town coming up the canyon--what a sight and what a gamble.
