I believe the headlight had been removed by one of the individuals working on the engine, and returned it after some repairs or other were made to it. This has also been the case in Boulder with 74.
I wonder where the cinder drain pipe is. For some time before the 71 was retired, it's cinder catcher/drain pipe didn't fit properly, and the cinder catcher had to sit crooked on the stack as a result. Now, the cinder catcher sits square on the stack, but the pipe is missing. Restoration, or sanctioned vandalism? It's a thin line.
Anyway, the headlight thing turned out to be not such a big deal before. The city of Central City should donate the Coal Car (gon) to the State Historical Society rather than letting it ride out a death penalty in a park.
