Work on widening the Cob (the embankment across the estuary mouth) is complete and the king points and turnout points for the Welsh Highland run round loop are being installed. The foundations for the signal box (tower) are in and the building to house the signal relays has been roofed. It may now be possible to move and re-install the storage sidings over the summer so with a following wind the whole installation can be completed next winter.

Meantime 'The Snowdonian' fund raising train will run the 80 miles over the combined Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways on April 13th with a mixture of Garratt and Double Fairlie steam power and a guided tour of Boston Lodge Works on the previous evening. Boston Lodge still builds steam locomotives and rolling stock. Ffestiniog Travel has a number of accommodation and journey packages which with the weak pound may prove attractive.

This year is the 150th anniversary of the building of the World's first practical narrow gauge revenue earning steam locomotives and 'Prince' and 'Palmerston' will top and tail three short photo charter trains on succesive days in early May, full details are on the 30742 Chartervs website.
