I think you are confusing the 6500 series DRGW flat cars that were converted from 28000 series std. ga. cars per the thread linked above. The 6500 series cars are the basis for the passenger cars now in service on the C&TS
You are correct Bret about the 6500 series cars being converted from std. ga. cars; however, they were flatcars and never became pipe "gons". So I think Mr. pd3463 may be thinking about the 9600 series pipe gons that were also converted from std. ga. stock cars and boxcars. Its an easy mistake to make since most of the 9600 pipe gons that survived were coverted into passenger cars and today operate on the D&S.
Here is a picture from Lisa Hadley that shows a 9600 pipe gon used by the C&TS for passengers.
However, to get back to Mr. pd3463's question, NO.. the #1110 currently on the Sumpter Valley was built as a narrow gauge gondola; I think in 1904 but I would need to check that. Here is a picture of the #1110 on a standard gauge flatcar in 1956 before it had the ends cut out to haul pipe and 20 years before we started using it to carry passengers on the SVRR. This picture is from the Narrow Gauge Pictorial #3 put out by R/ROBB PUBLICATIONS
