Re: Alpine Tunnel Tape

I have that VHS tape also.

It was produced by Historical Video Productions, 6309 W Milden Lane,West Valley City, Utah 84120-6919. Telephone 1-800-540-1708 as of 20 years ago. A Google search just turned up another phone no. of (801) 964-6155 but no website for the company.

I've been in Alpine Tunnel twice at the West Portal. First in July 1968 and the second time in August 1974. My wife and son traveled with me both times but did not go into the tunnel (son was 3 in '68 and 9 in '74)

In '68, we took our new International Scout to the East Portal (lots of things to be seen) but I didn't try to force my way over the fallen timbers and the cave-in. I then drove over Hancock Pass to Sherrod Loop and up to the West Portal. No distant parking lot for the W. Portal area back then.

We've been there many times since, the last being August of 2011 when our son, his wife, and their son (our grandson) were with us in a second 4x4. Son was 46 and grandson was 20.

Here's a photo of (left to right) me, grandson Wade, and son Will, all posed in front of the West Portal in August 2011. The stonework just behind us is the top of the West Portal of Alpine Tunnel. It's well sealed!
