Alamosa enginer Edward J. Donaldson (1889-1969) made $2,400 as a fireman/engineer according to the 1940 census. However, railroading was not always that profitable. The 1920 census lists him as a trapper along with his father, James. They lived in Chama, NM. wher they rented a house for $22 per month.
Engineer Donaldson began railroading as a fireman on 12-23-1909, one slot below Thomas J. Cummins. Donaldson was promoted to engineer 10-2-1918. In 1940 he was No. 37. In 1958 he was No. 7.
He is buried in Monte Vista by his wife Eunice.
