My last encounter with OY operations was during the winter of 1977, and it is hard to believe that was 35 years ago.
That was indeed some great video footage shared by Greg. One thing that I do recall was that the discharge from the rotary didn't consist strictly of fluffy snowflakes. I was one of many stupid railfans that quickly learned that flying ice chunks took the fun out of close up photography.
I share your ambition that a rotary can once again be made operational, but next time I'll be sure to don eye protection and a hard hat.
I do have a question about your endeavors to shovel snow into the tender. How is the snow melted? Is steam injected into the tender, or are there steam coils to heat the water supply?
