Hi Taylor. Any chance to see a copy of that photo. I know Shay 7 was equipped with a flanger/plow on the lead truck while at Black Hills Central. For some reason, John Edris decided we didn't need it,[maybe because of the 3 rail 3' &2'] torched it off and left it in the weeds in Hill City. Wished a few times we still had it, while running our'Hangover Express' on New Years day. Had enough snow that snow piling up in front of the truck brake beam would apply the engine brakes. The only time we have had Shay 7 on the ground was at our depot road crossing. We had been driving thru snow to the engine house, and packed flangeways with ice, track curved, lead truck didn't. Good tug on the throttle backed her in the ruts and right back on the rail, THEN we cleaned the flangeways.
