A few years ago Dale Olsen and I were in the cab of 19 for the Oct. photo special which had spitting snow and chilling winds. That year we had about 17 cars behind 19 if I recall correctly. With the cab curtain closed and the windows closed up it was quite comfey. I recall having to open the side window from time to time for a little cooler breath of air. We did not have the stove functioning yet in coach 20 and the photographers were a little envious.
I think someone told me that the unused valve on the back head that is below the water line was for a pipe coil under the engineer's seat box? I assume the one on the fireman's side that is used for heat to the mech. lubricator was used for a pipe coil on the fireman's side?
