The Empire Copper Co. owned two 23 ton Shays, #1551, cn-1551, and #1552, cn-1926. Both built new for the company. They also had 40 of the little 4 wheel hoppers. In addition to the hoppers, they had a couple of flat cars, a home-built caboose and a home-built wedge plow.

In 1917 the railroad was replaced with a 3 mile long aerial tram. The railroad apparently remained in place for a couple of more years until the tram proved a reliable alternative for the transportation of ore and supplies.
A visit to the museum in Mackay is well worth the time spent, and if you can Earl Lockie is available, you'll get the two dollar tour of the museum and Mine Hill.
