A little extra on the up coming Antonito roofing project--this is extracted from an email from Dick Beardmore, who is the consultant on the Antonito project. There have been problems securing access on railroad property to access the building, and since part of the money is coming from CDOT, they need everything in order. Dick said "several of us with a big call for volunteers too, under the umbrella of a little CPI Endangered Places weekend work shop grant next weekend (10/27 and 28), will be attempting to overlay as much of the roof with three tab shingles as we can, so as to stop several roof leaks and save ceiling plaster, until we can get through all of the CDOT clearances and construction easement challenges. . . or come up with a work around that does not require any formal RR ROW construction clearance/easement. The challenge is that the recent property survey confirms that the PL is essentially almost directly under the east eave line."

For those who are unfamiliar with the alphabet soup mix, CPI is Colorado Preservation, Inc. and CDOT is the Colorado Department of Transportation, and PL is propertry line. CDOT has channeled highway beautification money to various projects that aren't asphalt and in Silverton that has included rest rooms at the Mayflower Mill and money to restore the scale site at the Walsh Smelter on the Silverton Railroad. This last project is funded but has not been put out to bid yet.

If you're in the area, help these folks out to help save the Antonito depot.
