Thank's ROW Explorer. That's the thread I was looking for. Sounds like 71 suffered the the same thing as 60 with lateral play effecting the rear driver tires chewing into the wrapper sheets on the firebox along with tank and tender issues. Does 71 have it's original boiler from Baldwin as it appears.
As with the the ownership of 71, I have read conflicting posts about that. Is 71 owned by just the casino or is it co-owned by the casino and the City of Central City? Also what Casino is this?
Rick Steele did a lot of work on 71 as I understand. Rick if you see this, did you find any evidents of 71 having a different color other than black on the boiler jacket and domes? Were the jacket and domes completely sand-blasted? I wonder what finish the jacket has on in the image below? Was it green like that was found on 9 or is it branished iron with matching paint on the dome bases and tops? I don't think it is black like DL&G 191 at CRRM today from the high luster. I found a article from a Master Mechanic's convention from the late 1890 explaining how to mix high luster dark grey/blue or green paint to match branished (a.k.a. Russion) iron. I wondered if the C&S, D&RG, CM ect, did this on the domes of their locomotives?
