When I last visited the S&S in late 1991 I would suppose that buying a certain amount of good lumber and good plans will be more effective than bidding on the cars (The EBT cars and the baggage seem to be in better shape). The equipment (scrap) is in a very desloated shape so that rebuilding of most of the cars will be the same effort that builing them new from the frame up. The only things you could use are some the original metal castings.
The saving of the cars should have started over 10 years ago. At that time a real chance to rebuild most of them was given.
