Some basic info on "Uncle Carl": Hired 10-21-52, promoted to engineer 5-5-59. Don't know his retirement date (late 1980's?)
Carl was on a flanger train on New Years 1965-6 that nearly got stuck up on the hill. I never asked him about that. Carl ran the 483 on the last train over the hill in Dec. 1968. He ran the last Silverton under D&RGW ownership in 1980, then ran the last D&RGW NG steam locomotive the next day.
In 1985 he was #3 on the Alamosa board (which was combined with Pueblo then) behind Eldon Morgan, Jim Pearce and Johnny Lira.
I think he has a lot of his time books. He showed me the one from Dec. 1968 with him on the 483.
