In the summer of 1959, I was attending the Air Force photography school at Lowry Air Base in Denver. We were only allowed off the base on Saturday and Sunday. One of my first free Saturdays, I took the bus to Denver and then to Golden. Got off down town and asked how to get to the Colorado RR Museum. People told me there was no such place in Golden and I must have been thinking of another place. After trying for a while to find someone who know, I got on a pay phone and asked info for the Colorado RR Museum, they did not have a number for it. So I gave up, took the bus back to Denver and headed for Caboose Hobby Shop, figured they would know. They did not have a map, but made a sketch for me, but told me if I did not have a car it was a long walk from downtown Golden. So next week, I called the museum from Lowry Air Base. Bob answered the phone and recognized my name from letters we had exchanged. He told me to take the bus the coming Saturday to Golden, call him when I got there and he would come to get me. I did and spent my first day at the Colorado RR Museum in July 1959 with Bob. That night he took me out to dinner (I forget where). He paid for my dinner as he said he knew how low my pay was.. Took me to catch the bus. I went out two more times that summer before I graduated from the photo school.
When I rode with Bob to the first C&TS Rotary Run, I reminded him that he had paid for my dinner so he had to let me buy dinner that night.
