A bit of a clarification. The original "rescue" of #30/74 was undertaken in 1951 by Dr. John Schooland, a University of Colorado psycology professor, and the pennies and nickels of hundreds of Boulder school kids. So kudos go to the late Dr. Schooland and the kids. It was put on display in Central Park (I presume with the cooperation of the City of Boulder) and was gifted to the City. I wish I could say that the "train in the park" has been well cared for over the years by the City Parks Department, but unfortunately, that was not the case. Care given to the train came from dedicated individuals and groups from time to time. The train came acropper, first when the coach was sent out for restoration and was subsequently sent to the CRRM for safekeeping, then the locomotive got swallowed up in an abortive scheme to return it to steam and run it at the Loop following the 2004 Loop "meltdown, and then the caboose was burned. The train is now reunited at the Colorado Railroad Museum, where it will be cared for by dedicated museum volunteers and staff. Safe at last! No more carnage.
PS. The coach restoration was a mixed blessing. While it looks nice, it was re-sided with some sort of inferior wood (I joke that it must have been balsa wood), and we have an ongoing battle with dry rot.
