The two times that I assisted in aligning a set of locomotive drivers to install the rods, we used a hydraulic jack on each side of the engine, jacking against a spoke on the driver, in effect slipping the individual pair of drivers. We repeated that process until we had everything lined up. It was actually fairly simple.
