Even a youngster like me can recall driving across Arizona when the price of regular was posted at 'Terrible Herbst' stations at $
.35 a gallon. Or was it $
.29??
...
I haven't done any formal research, but the only thing I can think of other than computer speed & memory that hasn't even doubled in price since I was a kid is tennis balls - about $3.00/can in 1959 and SFAIK still under $5.00/can in 2012.
