I agree with you Jim, I'm sure it was an easy simple solution to have the couplers centred over their respective gauges, note it has 2 different trucks under it as well, simple engineering + minnimal expense = a Brazilian coupler adaptor car.
It would only work if all the yard was totally dual gauge and it automatically changes sides if the common rail changed sides or even became central, quite a good idea really.
