I agree that it probably had something to do with drawbars, and
pulling the train apart. Imagine trying to stop and start three tenders at Cresco for example, and then getting it all started. Also I figure the mid-train engine of a three engine set might mess them up at Cumbres
with similar problems switching, cutting engines out, water, etc.

Someone in the know, perhaps Earl or others might have the definitive answer though!
