In the shifting sands of Ag-wanna-stan (pronounced as if choking), reading is a sometime luxury ... we work 12 hour shifts that often stretch to 14-16-18, and there are no days off. Count off seven, then keep counting .... Today is 480 for me, ... with 250 to go. But I digress ... I came over here with a chewy tome about the origins of political anti semitism in 19th century Austria and Germany, but finally socked that one away and sent it home. Anticipating a difficult delivery to our tiny outpost, I ordered the Rainbow Route online with two months to spare. It took four months to arrive. The jones about a book like this is the moving. When the CO says to hit the staging area, you gotta be packed up and ready to go NOW ! Frilly personal stuff like books take a low priority when it comes to convoys or chopper hops. But I gotta say that a book like the Rainbow Route provides an excellent distraction when you spend a night on the LZ waiting for a bird that never comes.
