Sid Skirvin was not listed in the L.H. Hale telegram on the wreck but he had to been there in order to be injured. I didn't think that the train was long enough to require a swing brakeman so maybe he was deadheading back to Alamosa ~ or he could have been a member of the operating crew.
A.S. Skirvin was hired as a brakeman on 6-26-1909 and promoted to conductor 10-25-1917. He was No. 12 in 1945.
According to Dave Dye's (ROWExplorer) 1910 Chama census Skirvin was born in 1879 in Kentucky. He was one of the brakemen assigned to Chama in 1910. Since he was at or near his 69th birthday when the avalanche occured he was close to the end of his careeer.
