There is a wonderful, detailed section in John Norwood's book "Rio Grande Narrow Gauge Recollections" that starts on page 66 and covers the incident fully!
It has details on the injuries to the train crew. I was wrong, no one broke a leg:
1. "Sunny" a fill in parlor car attendant - numerous lacerations below both knees.
2. Ed Morgan, conductor - a three inch triangle shaped scalp wound.
3. Sid Shirvin, brakeman - some cracked ribs.
