Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but why would a reproduction of the original be a problem? There are plenty of cases of historic reconstructions of buildings in museums, parks, etc around the world. Unless there is some reason why the original would not work for today's needs and would have to be heavily modified, I would think that a reproduction would be far more desirable than something completely different.
