Very nice, Jason -
Here are three of mine taken 02/08 on the Virginia & Truckee,
and three taken a couple of days later on the way home -
As a little boy once said, "If there's that much steam there's gotta
be a train there someplace ... and some foamers nearby!"
:
O-K, so I added that last part.
This one's not entirely trainless either - IF you count the barely visible headlight of #29. Several very well known chroniclers of narrow gauge and/or steam railroading throughout the world are in the group to the right (and in the tunnel, above)
:
And here's one of the twin bridges at the mouth of Afton Canyon, illuminated only by moonlight and the headlight of a westbound U.P. freight
:
Another photo at the east end of Afton Canyon,
* taken about 1/3 mile to the south and uphill from the one above
:
The wooden 'headstone' reads:
"CARL 'T-BONE' ALBRIGHT
"HENRY OKLAHOMA TO AZUSA CALIFORNIA 1933
"7 DAYS 7 HOURS RIDIN THE RAILS".
At the lower right corner the word "WIFE" is inscribed,
with an arrow pointing down and to the right.
SEVERAL hours later, this one was taken somewhere east of Barstow along the
ATSF BNSF
